What this means for you
These are common experiences for people at your level:
-
You usually speak well, but in stressful situations, you freeze, overthink, or get lost in your own explanation.
-
You sometimes feel that your English sounds less professional than your real expertise.
-
When you try to be precise, you may use long sentences and then lose the thread or forget the main point.
-
You can express your ideas, but you don’t feel fully in control of your message. So you don’t have the impact that you could have.
-
You want to grow in your career, but low confidence in English stops you from taking bigger opportunities.
You are not alone!
Many HR professionals feel this way.
You often think that you need “better grammar” or “more vocabulary,” but in reality, you need simple communication tools and more training in speaking in real-life situations.
You will not feel confident after you learn 20, 50, 100 new expressions.
At this level, you don’t need more words. You need more structure.
When you simplify your message and use clear patterns, you will sound more confident and more professional.
This might surprise you: Even experienced HR professionals who speak English every day sometimes freeze!
Practical tips to help you
speak clearly and confidently
01
Use “pause phrases” to get a moment to think
You DON’T have to speak right away. Use these phrases to take a moment to calm yourself down:
-
“Let me think for a moment.”
-
“Give me a moment, please.”
-
“I need a moment to explain this clearly.”
It is OK to ask for a moment to think! Native speakers do it all the time. These phrases help you slow down and feel in control.
02
Start with your main point with a simple phrase
This immediately shows confidence and helps your brain stay focused.
Examples:
-
“My main point is…”
-
“The key problem is…”
-
“From an HR perspective…”
-
“My recommendation is…”
This will help you highlight the main message you want to share without overexplaining it.
03
Make your sentences short like bullet points
Avoid linking many sentences by adding “and”, “ahm” or “because”. This will make your speech very complicated, and your message will get lost.
Example:
❌ “I would like to explain the reason why this situation happened and what steps we should take because…”
✔ “Here is what happened. Here is what we can do next.”
This will make your message clearer and more professional.
04
Practise short summaries
Summaries train your brain to think clearly even under pressure.
Examples:
-
“The main thing here is…”
-
“To put it simply…”
-
“Let me summarise this.”
This will help you pause and refocus, and you message will be more understandable.
